Acupuncture is a medical therapy which originated in China and has been in continuous use for over 5,000 years. It is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an effective treatment for a wide range of health problems. Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine, pre-sterilized needles into the body at specific points, which have been empirically proven effective in the treatment of specific disorders. This action stimulates and activates the body’s self-healing mechanisms. Acupuncture is based on the ancient Chinese theories of the flow of energy (Qi) and blood (Xue) through channels or meridians which traverse the body. This is similar but not identical to the nervous and circulatory systems. According to this theory, acupuncture regulates the flow of energy. Letting it go where energy is deficient and draining it where it is excessive, thus promoting balance. The needles are very safe. Our clinic uses only pre-sterilized, disposable needles to ensure the safety of our patients.
